Meko Cheng

Born in Hong Kong in 1996, Meko Cheng graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in sculpture. She focuses on paper as the creative medium. She is fascinated by its delicate characteristics: the plane, construction, tension in the creation of three-dimensional pieces. She worked on a series of pieces of “heavy and light”, “pull and release”, which were exhibited in Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Singapore and more.

After graduating from university in 2019, Cheng participated in the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s  cultural heritage education program, taking traditional paper-cutting courses. She conceived the concept of transforming traditional techniques and modern materials to construct an imaginary world. From appearances to introspections, one cut after another to explore “yin” and “yang” in the art of paper-cutting created blessings between lines.
